๐ The Colors of Norway
Discover the fascinating history behind Norway's iconic red, white, and yellow houses
RED HOUSES
The People's Choice
Made with ochre and cod liver oil, red was the most affordable color. That's why you'll see so many red barns in farming and fishing communities!
YELLOW HOUSES
The Middle Ground
Also made with ochre and cod liver oil, but slightly more expensive than red. A sign of modest prosperity!
WHITE HOUSES
The Luxury Option
Required expensive zinc mineral. White houses were symbols of wealth and status!
⛰️ Stavanger: Jumping the Shark
"Why climb a mountain? Because it's there. What I'd really like to do is bungee jump off this cliff — because I'm not all there."
The Philosophy of Adventure
Ed's take on Stavanger: "This would be my version of Happy Days, when Fonzie jumped the shark." Sometimes the best adventures happen when we let go of our everyday minds.
Cruising with Holland America
"Norway is a lot like pizza — when it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good." The Viking landscapes always deliver!
Nature's Living Mirror
"Nature's living mirror is water — whether still or in motion." The fjords taught Ed that beautiful landscapes pair perfectly with H2Ooooooooh!
"Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean."
- John Muir (Featured in Ed's Stavanger Journey)
๐ด♂️ Narvik: Coming to in Viking Land
"I didn't wake up this morning. I came to---here in Viking land, home of the Nobel Peace Prize"
Nobel Peace Prize Country
Ed found himself in "a perfect world, where chickens get to cross the road without having their motives questioned." Though he jokes, "I'd kill for one!" (which might disqualify him).
Rewriting the Dictionary
"Magnificent, stunning, breathtaking, spectacular, awesome just won't do." Regular words can't capture Narvik's beauty. Plus, "The water is too cold to go swimming!"
The Bike Adventure
Ed found a bike with no brakes! "After a little tweak, got them to work. It's a bit small, but cut the travel time into downtown considerably."

"The fjords are nature's own work of art, carved by ice, decorated by waterfalls, and preserved in silence."
— Norwegian Proverb
"Intoxicating - but I swear to drunk I'm not God. On our way this morning to Norway's most famous waterfalls - Vรธringsfossen - Mรฅbรธdalen"

"If Hollywood is loneliness beside the swimming pool, then Norway is solitude by the fjords."
