It is renowned for having the 2nd largest reef in the world and some of the most spectacular diving & snorkeling in Mexico but I am on land chasing the Carnival Miracle out of New York, first, taking a ferry to Playa Del Carmen, then a shuttle to Cancun Airport.

The Documentary of Cozumel that Cousteau Never made

In 1955, Jacques-Yves Cousteau made a 1 hour 23 ... a TV special that launched Cozumel's diving industry. Yet, none of the footage was shot in Mexico,according to the  Costeau society.
They say that  Le Monde du Silence is confused with another guy from Sea Hunt and Flipper fame, Rene Cordova who shot Un Mundo Nuevo. The story got repeated so many times, however, it has become fact, even by me!

Now I know why Jacques Cousteau, legendary ocean explorer, called it the "best diving area in the world."....

I blogged and youtube'd  about it, and it's even been set to music in John Denver's Calypso.

I guess if you tell a story long enough it DOES become fact.

I've been to Mexico so many times and taken life with a grain of salt and a slice of lemon and a shot of tequila.

You know when Tequila is talking.where you drink triple, see double and act single. It has a very distinctive voice. Sublime is no longer something I choke on after one.

I' I've gone native in a Col Kurtz sort of way, drinking tequila, and sporting a Hecho in Mexico Straw Cowboy hat--but not this trip. No more killing precious brain cells. The Mayan calender-end of the world- has to wait. It's already tomorrow in Australia
