Life Is Always Where We Are

“hark, now hear the sailors cry, smell the sea, and feel the sky let your soul & spirit fly, into the mystic...”

If Paul Elvström is the patron saint of Yachting, then Van Morrison should be his apostle. His lyrics sum up getting "caught" by the sea. "Do you know a cure for me?" you may ask. YES, I do: SALT.

I know of a cure for everything: salt water...in one way or the other. Sweat, or tears, or the salt sea.'  --Out of Africa  Karen Blixen

As special as it was to be in the hanger, the AC45F was meant to sail in blue ocean, and all that kinetic energy and the need for speed needed to be translated on the blue ocean.

thought I'd be so close to the action today,

Everything you could ever learn at The B School MBA comes from managing a world that's less than 20 metres long. There is probably a better ROI if you buy a boat instead of gettinga traditional EDUMACATION: Weather it is sail boats or cruise ships, you think about life quite a lot. After being out at sea for weeks or months at a time, you return home having solved the question of what you want to do in five years!

If you live a make-believe fantasy life, your life isn't worth anything, but do something that challenges  your reality, like traveling around the world out of your comfort zones, learning a new culture or language, or sailing the open ocean---those life or death situations--now that's AFFIRMING!

Dubai Or Not Dubai

Dubai, with Burj Khalifa as a backdrop
The sea is one of the most magical places on Earth. It gets into your blood. Last time Sarah and I sailed was with the Dubai Offshore Club and she was the Skipper. I was merely crew.
It's so simple to rely on GPS positioning, so it's really important to learn to navigate by the sun, the moon and the stars. Sarah Kennedy, my wife, is an amazing Sailor. You want her on your life boat when things go wrong like losing power. . She has both old and new skillsets, and can even navigate by sextant.
