Bordeaux, France-View of The Left Bank

Image
The old city is beautiful, the resolve of the French people to  restore and preserve what the Allies bombed and destroyed during WW2. I took a walk ON THE reflective pool.  Holland America's Prinsendam proudly stands tall in the background in the river Garonne

Porto, Portugal - Bom Dia

Image
From the place that gave the wine it's very name Porto , I am walking down cobblestone streets in medieval times juxtaposed with modernity. Midiaeval Urban Rambling Through the Centro district was a walk in the park. An aperitif

Lisbon, Portugal-My Dutch Bike

Christo Rei The ROYAL Gazelle is the way to cycle around downtown. I spotted an IBM Selectric typewriter, which begs the question:Are they still using them along with Vinyl records, in Portugal? Anyway the nostalgia is not lost as this was one of my favorite machines, because of the different font changes. I did not vote for Starbucks today. Instead a Bica and a Pastes Que Nada at a local cafe. -Gr8! The first Word Processor is making a comeback  I also biked along the river bank for 3 k to try the Pastรฉis de Belรฉm's Pastes Que Nada-freshly baked-just as delicious

Lagos, Portugal-A Wind From The North

High Cliffs And Sandy Beaches. After a 45 minute bus ride from Portamรฃyo, we headed for a small fishing village along the Algarve coast, then onto the spectacular views at Lagos. Henry the Navigator embarked on his discovery ships from here to Africa and the Atlantic islands. Lisbon, Portugal-My Dutch Bike The

Top of the World - Gibraltar Summit Experience ๐ŸŒ Top of the World Standing majestically at 426 meters above sea level on the Rock of Gibraltar - where Europe meets Africa and two seas converge in spectacular harmony. ๐Ÿ”️ Summit Perspective Standing on top of the Rock of Gibraltar , I am truly on top of the world. Europe stretches out at my feet, Africa lies magnificently to my left, while the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean embrace either side of this incredible vantage point. ๐Ÿ”ญ Panoramic Views From a breathtaking height of 426 meters , the world unfolds before you. The African coastline beckons in the distance, Spain's Costa del Sol sparkles along the horizon, and below spreads a magnificent panoramic view of the bustling city. ๐Ÿ’ The Gibralta...

What a Good Morning Sunrise. I haven't seen Morocco for a long long while. From The ObservatyioND eck, after a short ride up the cable car North Africa in the distance

Cรณrdova, Spain 3 Cultures

Image
A Mosque, A CATHEDRAL and a Synagogue - all here in one beautiful Jerusalem. After a 2 hour bus ride from Malaga, we arrive at Cordova.  The Romans called Espaรฑa land of the rabbits,  but after seeing miles and miles of olive tree plantations, I have other ideas.

Alicante, Spain- Knight and Day

Image
Another Knight In a Castle Can someone please tell me how you spell 'medieval' or Mediaeval...Anyway, who cares modern Spain is the Land of 10 PM dinner and it's probably Paella. People are not dancing Flamenco in the streets or constantly taking naps like in Barcelona when I lived there in 1988! Sailing towards Picasso' s birthplace maรฑana---Malaga.  Haven't seen any bulls running through the streets, or Bullfights. EVEN THOUGH, in Barcelona,  they leveled a Stadium , built a shopping mall and outlawed it, I wouldn't mind seeing an Arena, just to see the setup. But what an unfair fight.  How about putting a naked Matador with a naked bull and see who wins!

Rome Sweet Rome, Italy

2 Tix To The Gun Show Traveling is an activity not an accomplishment: Yet when I look out tomorrow at the cruise ships docked in Civitavecchia. I will have sailed on almost all the brands to almost every place on the planet. That's a maneuver! I  won’t make time for a visit to the Vatican this month. No H2 OMG holy water or admiration for St Peters Basilica-Ancient Rome is old--I hope I look this good when I am over 1000 years old! Instead I'll explore  the port city.  Italy is different from France-It’s still Numero Uno, but not in the Napoleonic-Short-Man's-Complex sense- more like “I am Christ Incarnate” Roman Catholic sense. Wal-mart might have a ten tooth or less line, but the Hoi polloi  from Italy Don’t wait on lines—It’s just one crucible of creative chaos and Forget About It-not worth the mental energy to sweat the details. 2009 St Peters Basilica Rome, is a city of 1001 cliches-It wasn't built in a day, All Roads lead here....so...

Being There-With Holland America

Image
Jumping The Shark In Norway Why climb a mountain? Because it's there. What I’d really like to do is bungee jump off this cliff — because I’m not all there. This would be my version of Happy Days , when Fonzie jumped the shark — that defining moment when you know your favorite TV show has peaked. Being There — With Holland America On the Road To Shangra-LA Wow, what a summer. Norway is a lot like pizza — when it’s good, it’s really good. When it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. And like the pizza guy, the Viking landscapes always deliver. If you only travel to places everyone else goes, you’ll only think what everyone else is thinking. Not everyone trusts paintings, but people believe videos. Nature’s living mirror, however, is water — whether still or in motion. The most beautiful landscapes pair perfectly with H 2 Ooooooooh! Top 7 Videos That Will Make You Want to Cruise to Norway The happy-go-locals d...

Three Queens, one magnificent city- This  Sunday, May 3rd, The Cunard fleet are ALL back from their World Cruises. This gathering of Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria at Cunard’s home port for almost 100 years- QM2 will take center stage in the celebration. Exactly 175 years ago Britannia left British waters bound for America. Since then ,The Queen Mary 2 currently remains the ONLY  regularly scheduled ocean liner on the high seas that makes the transatlantic crossing- AND  is dubbed  the shortest bridge between New York and Europe. Working Onboard the QM2 was awesome! The QM2 allows dogs onboard-cute! QM2 Last July in Hamburg This photo pretty much sums up the crowds enthusiastic response as the flagship sails away down The Elbe River to open waters in the North This was last July, In Hamburg, for the 10th Anniversary of QM2 in Germany.
