Scotland Meets Scandinavia
Views from the Edge
Not So Fair Isle
Collected these memories in our trip reports: Not So Fair Isle. We are ending this for a week until our return. Looking back at 2020 and 2021 during the global pandemic, we took social distancing to the extreme by self-isolating on Britain's most remote inhabited island, Fair Isle, with a population of just 45 residents, now 42, minus a dog named Skyelark too.
As MacArthur says, We Shall Return to this magical place where Scotland meets Scandinavia.
Our Scotland-Scandinavia Journey
Where Two Seas Meet
Arriving at the crossroads where the North Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean, Fair Isle stands as a unique geographical marvel between Scotland and Scandinavia.
Pandemic Isolation Extreme
During 2020 and 2021, we took social distancing to the extreme by self-isolating on Britain's most remote inhabited island with just 45 residents.
Population Minus Skyelark
The island's population shifted from 45 to 42 residents, minus our beloved dog Skyelark, who became part of the island's unique character.
Not So Fair Isle Chronicles
Collecting memories in our trip reports titled Not So Fair Isle, documenting the raw, authentic experience of life on Britain's edge.
MacArthur's Promise: We Shall Return
Like MacArthur's famous words, we too promise to return to this magical place where Scotland meets Scandinavia, a land that captures hearts forever.
Life at the Edge
The Edge Is Not Empty
Fair Isle represents more than just a remote island. It is the physical manifestation of where cultures, seas, and lives intersect. Here, where Scotland meets Scandinavia, we discovered that isolation does not mean loneliness, and remoteness does not mean emptiness.
The rugged beauty of this landscape, captured in breathtaking views from Shetland's main island, reminds us that some of life's most profound experiences happen at the edges of the world, where few dare to venture but many dream of reaching.
