It feels like we are moving through paintings as the ever changing weather lights the landscape in unique and splendid ways here on Fair Isle.  Today we took a day trip by plane to the mainland.

A little backstory...
Thanks to the popularity of the TV Series Shetland, we have had  it on our radar as places to visit. We ended up having an extended stay!  So we owe our grand life to the TV series.

Stay tuned---we get a surprise cameo with the lead actor of the series.

Of all the 115 islands  in the archipelago,  just a few- 15- are inhabited ones. We are at to Britain's most remote island, Fair Isle. Today we took a day trip  to the mainland, and coincidently, they were shooting BBC One's Crime Drama, Shetland.

Shetland is a Scottish crime drama television series, made by ITV Studios for BBC Scotland. Detective Jimmy Perez, the main character played by Douglas Henshall, was there and so were we.

During a break from one of his takes, I got to thank Douglas for introducing me to Shetland through his series and  Fair Isle, where Sarah and I now reside is the Blue Lightning episode.

How cool is this- art imitating life.
The real Jimmy Perez,, Jimmy Stout, is one of our neighbors. He is still going strong. Here we are two month ago, during one of our sheep roundups.(August 2021) Made a VIDEO if you want to see how crofting life is on Fair Isle these days.

What to Expect on Your First Island Hop Flight from Tingwall to Fair Isle -these island hop flights are  safe, scenic, and an economical way to get around. The  30-minute flight can save you over 2.5  hours spent on a the Good Shepherd ferry to make the same 23 mile transit. FYI: Ferry Info:

Fair Isle-Alive On Arrival

Shetland island hop flights are also known as ‘puddle jumpers.’ Planes tend to be small and service airports that consist of one tiny landing strip. They’re also notorious reputations for running off schedule due to the vicissitudes of fickle  weather. Think old Cessna planes built sometime between 1927 and 1997. There is no cockpit door separating passengers from the pilot.

FYI:

THERE IS NOT A REAL  A BARRIER BETWEEN YOU AND THE PILOT

YOU MIGHT BE WEIGHED ALONG WITH YOUR LUGGAGE.

IT WILL BE NOISY

IT MAY NOT BE AS SMOOTHA S YOU THINK

READY TO FLY? With these expectations in mind, your first island hop flight might be a fun adventure rather than an anxiety-inducing experience. Every time I board, I am grateful that such scenic flights can get me from point A  TIGWALL to B  FAIR ISLE safely.
