Show Rather Than Tell-All
“You should write a book.” I would rather shoot a movie, with sequels. A show rather than a tell-all. The problem was never a shortage of material. It was finding a frame large enough, deep enough, and broad enough to hold the reality.
The original page treated the journeys as a desert-toned gallery. The EK version asks the more useful question: what did the journeys authorize? Every photograph became a field note. Every route became a rehearsal for the created self.

Ordinary World · The Story Already Written
Most lives arrive with a default narrator.
Family, work, geography, habit, and expectation begin writing before the individual notices that authorship has been outsourced.

The call was not simply to travel. It was to become producer, director, and editor of a life that had previously been treated as received material.
When we tell our own story and write our own autobiography, we begin to live more consciously. We unfold our own myth—with ourselves as producer and director—going out to sea in an infinity of hope, with final cut over the next version.
A story can be fabricated to avoid reality. It can also be declared to create a heading. The distinction is evidence. The created self must eventually appear in photographs, decisions, contracts, skills, routes, relationships, and the hard record of what was done.

Make it up so truly that later it happens.
The leap from autobiography to authorship occurs when the imagined identity begins issuing instructions.
The life was not made real by positive thinking. It became real through positions taken: boarding the ship, entering the desert, crossing the ocean, accepting the role, making the photograph, writing the field note, and returning often enough for a pattern to appear.
Success without fulfilment is failure. The aim was not endless acquisition of destinations, but a present-tense relationship with joy, freedom, attention, and the finite number of days available for final cut.

The versions do not have to be identical. But when the gap between them becomes too large, the life loses coherence. The task is not perfect consistency. It is conscious authorship.
