The South Rises Again

Charlston  is  beautiful and gorgeous. Took a horse drawn carriage tour of the French Quarter; then made my way up to the Citadel to see the Lords of Discipline. They were out at the parade ground marching and drilling. The PT was amazing, fireman carrys across the football field. Monster tire tosses as relay races. It is one of the most idisycratic institutions of the South.  Everything is still in its place, the gigantic Confederate flag, and Old Glory and the flag of South Carolina's seccession from The Union.

The irony of this all? The Driver of my horse-drawn carriage tour, let's call him Will McLean, was a 2006 grad of The Citadel. He showed me his ring. Shouldn't he be off with USMC Uncle Sam's misguided children. His self imposed expatriation had a remorseless medeival splendor about it, giving his devotion to duty as a tour guide and his unapologetic capitulation from the military.

Went to The Art Institute, some galleries, bought some canvas from a supplier and ate fudge. There are chocolate and ice cream vendors everywhere. I'm coo coo for coco puffs happy about that.

So what is the difference between a Palmetto Tree and a Palm Tree...about the same difference between a crocodile and an alligator....not much.

"Happiness is an accident of nature, a beautiful and flawless aberration."
